New York City Takes on Algorithmic Discrimination

The ACLU reports on a new bill passed by the New York City Council to improve understanding of algorithmic decision-making in governmental contexts. The bill, which is expected to be signed by Mayor Bill de Blasio,  will create a task force to review New York City agencies’ use of algorithms. The expert task force will develop a set of recommendations addressing the transparency, fairness and contestability of algorithms. [ACLU]
