In treating your data, REIsearch.eu follows the following core principles:
1. Your data and your content are owned by you.
Whatever personal data and original content you upload to your REIsearch.eu account is owned by you. We do not claim any ownership rights over your research. Of course, you can delete your data at any time.
From all registered and signed-in users’ individual accounts, we anonymously aggregate document details, tags and statistics, some of which will be made available to the REIsearch.eu members and users. Nothing about you personally can be inferred from the aggregated statistics.
2. You decide who can have access to what information.
REIsearch.eu has developed a highly personalized “access policy” that allows you as user and member of the service to decide who can see what information you upload or add to your profile. This “access policy” refers to all content including, but not limited to, data in your profile, any content type, groups, blogs, events, opportunities.
REIsearch.eu will not make public or make accessible to anybody whom you have not expressedly allowed access, any private or personally identifiable data. No user or member will ever know what you are currently researching or reading, unless you explicitly decide to share this data with other users of members. In addition, it is your decision whether to share this data with selected colleagues only, with certain groups, with all members of the REIsearch.eu community, to the media or to the public at large.
3. Clearly defined data sharing policy
REIsearch.eu has set out a clear data sharing policy within the REIsearch.eu community in order to facilitate trust and collaboration among the users and members of REIsearch.eu. This data sharing policy is agreed upon by all users and member of the REIsearch.eu community upon joining the community. Users and member will be reminded of the details of this policy whenever content is used or shared within the community.

REIsearch.eu believes that collecting and sharing data in this way will benefit individual users and members as well as the REIsearch.eu community as a whole, as it:
facilitates content sharing within a safe and secure environment;
allows for the flexibility and security necessary when sharing research data and results;
improves the identification of content in REIsearch.eu,
allows you unprecedented insights into the statistics and research trends of your academic discipline,
gives you a better understanding of your own research habits and document collection,
enables us to provide you with better functions for easily finding researchers and content of interest, through tools such as the search function of “What’s new in” function,
let’s you evaluate your impact on the research community,
enables you to discover the most interesting people in your academic discipline,
helps to create the world’s largest academic database, open and accessible to everyone.

PRIVACY POLICY
REIsearch.eu is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.
This policy (together with our Terms Agreement and any other documents referred to in it) sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us. Please read the following carefully to understand our views and practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it.
For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998 (the “Act”), the data controller is Atomium European Institute for Science Media and Democracy resident in 457, Avenue Louise, 1050 Brussels, Belgium (“EISMD”, “we”, “us” or “our”), registered under the number BE0881395943.
INFORMATION WE MAY COLLECT FROM YOU
As a general principle, you provide us with two types of inforAmation: personal information you knowingly disclose which is collected by us, and information collected by us about how you use and interact with REIsearch.eu.
REIsearch.eu collects:
user submitted information such as name, email address, and age to authenticate users and to send notifications to those users relating to the services of REIsearche.eu;
other profile data including but not limited to: research interests, gender, age, education and occupation in order to assist users in finding and communicating with each other. This may include any information provided at the time of registering to REIsearch.eu, contacting us for any reason, posting and uploading content and material (including your personal profile and any forums in which you participate), communicating with other users through REIsearch.eu or requesting further services or information;
if you contact us, we may keep a record of that correspondence and your contact details. We may also ask you for information if you complain or report a problem on REIsearch.eu;
we may also ask you to complete surveys that we use for research purposes, although you do not have to respond to them;
details and information in the way that you use REIsearch.eu including the pages you visit and the time you spend on REIsearch.eu;
details about your computer (including where available your IP address, operating system and browser type) and your visits to REIsearch.eu (including, but not limited to, traffic data and other communication data);
details and information in the way that you use REIsearch.eu to access and manage your library including the articles you read, access and download and how long you read them;
non-personally-identifiable information including IP address, profile information, aggregate user data, and browser type, from users and visitors to the site This data is used to manage the website, track usage and improve the website services. This non-personally-identifiable information may be shared with third-parties to provide more relevant services to members. User IP addresses are recorded for security and monitoring purposes.
REIsearch.eu members can invite colleagues to join the service by sending invitation emails via our automated invitation system. The email addresses that members provide will be stored so that the respondents may have access to the REIsearch.eu member privileges, and also to send reminders of the invitations. REIsearch.eu does not sell these email addresses or use them to send any other communication besides invitations, invitation reminders (up to three (3) per email address). Recipients of invitations from REIsearch.eu may request the removal of their information from our database.
COOKIES
REIsearch.eu may obtain information about your general internet usage by using cookies. A cookie is a small text file that is stored on your computer and contains text information. Cookies are used to support a number of functions that are available on REIsearch.eu. Please note that we do not save any personal information via such cookies. Information about you as a user cannot be traced by us via such cookies.
Cookies help us to improve REIsearch.eu and to deliver a better and more personalized service. They enable us:
to estimate our audience size and usage pattern;
to store information about your preferences, and so allow us to customise our Site according to your individual interests;
to speed up your searches;

WHERE WE STORE YOUR PERSONAL DATA
The data that we collect from you is stored on information technology systems located in the EEA which are operated by us. Some data processing and other technical activities in relation to the services are carried out on our behalf by our third party suppliers who may be located outside the EEA. These countries may not have similar data protection laws to the EEA although though we will take reasonable steps to ensure that your privacy rights continue to be protected.
Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to REIsearch.eu; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.
USES MADE OF THE INFORMATION
We use information held about you in the following ways:
to provide our service to you including allowing you to:
participate in interactive and social networking features of our service, when you choose to do so;
manage, catalogue and share your academic papers;
to ensure that content from REIsearch.eu is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer;
to recommend articles that you may be interested in reading and to prepare individualized statistical information;
to deal with any queries, complaints or questions you ask us;
to notify you about changes to our service and provide you with information about our service;
for research and development to evaluate and enhance REIsearch.eu and the services we offer;
for pseudonymous analysis to create a profile used to determine the habits, interests or other characteristics of users for purposes of research, analysis and anonymous reporting; and
for REIsearch.eu and system administration, such as for technical support of the Site and its computer system, including processing computer account information, information used in the course of securing and maintaining REIsearch.eu and verification of REIsearch.eu activity by the REIsearch.eu;
We may use aggregate statistical information regarding users’ interests, habits and reading patterns in order to better our services and features. Please note that some of our features including “What’s new in” enable the system to find the most interesting information for you through the use of this information. This statistical data does not contain any personally identifiable information and is only made available to registered users and other interested third parties (such as publishers) on an anonymous and aggregated basis.
To help provide our service to you, we may engage infrastructure service providers temporary and limited access to some of your personal information (which will never include your research activity but which may include other data). In such case REIsearch.eu will:
(i) inform such infrastructure service providers of REIsearch.eu’s privacy policy;
(ii) instruct providers to never process or use your personal information for any other purpose except for providing services to REIsearch.eu;
(iii) instruct providers to delete all information when REIsearch.eu ceases to use the service or services provided.
DISCLOSURE OF YOUR INFORMATION
We may disclose your personal information within the organs set-up for the management of REIsearch.eu (Consultative Committee, Management Team, Technical Development Office) with the provision that the rights expressed by the Privacy Policy are not disclosed to third parties.
We may disclose your personal information to third parties only if we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data; or to protect our rights, property, or safety, our users, or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organisations for the purposes of fraud protection and credit risk reduction.
Except as otherwise described in this privacy statement, REIsearch.eu will not disclose personal information to any third party unless we believe that disclosure is necessary:
i) in order to comply with any legal obligation, or in order to enforce or apply our Terms Agreement and other agreements, whether or not a response is required by applicable law;
ii) to protect our rights; or
iii) to protect the safety of members of the public and users of the service.
EDITING AND DELETION OF DATA
Generally, you can edit and delete any personal data you upload to our Site. If you wish to deactivate your account you may do so. Removed information may persist in backup copies for a reasonable period of time and as necessary to comply with our legal obligations. However, please note that this information will not be generally available to other users or registered members.
Non-personal information about research documents, such as bibliographic information, abstracts, keywords, or cited references will persist in our database and will not be deleted automatically when you deactivate your account, unless you specifically request this by contacting us. If non-personal information about research documents is in the public domain or has also been uploaded by other users, we may opt to retain it in our database to ensure continued service to these other users. Where you make use of the interactive features of the service to share information with other users and registered users you may not be able to remove such communications.
YOUR RIGHTS
You have the right to ask us not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. We will usually inform you (before collecting your data) if we intend to use your data for such purposes or if we intend to disclose your information to any third party for such purposes.
REIsearch.eu may, from time to time, contain links to and from the websites of our partner networks, and affiliates. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies. Please check these policies before you submit any personal data to these websites.
ACCESS TO INFORMATION
The Act gives you the right to access information held about you. Your right of access can be exercised in accordance with the Act. Any access request may be subject to a fee of 15 Euro to meet our costs in providing you with details of the information we hold about you.
CHANGES TO OUR PRIVACY POLICY
Any changes we may make to our privacy policy in the future will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, notified to you by e-mail. Your use of REIsearch.eu and any disputes arising from it is subject to this Privacy Policy as well as our Terms of Use Agreement and all of its dispute resolution provisions including arbitration, limitation on damages and choice of law. We reserve the right to change our Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use Agreement at any time. Non-material changes and clarifications will take effect immediately, and material changes will take effect within 30 days of their posting on this site.
